Bearing Witness…
DRP’s Speaker’s Bureau
Darfur is the genocide the world swore would never happen again. Hundreds of thousands dead…and most of them civilians…women and children. Another unimaginable 2.5 million displaced and living in squalid camps for one or more years. Life in the camps of Darfur and neighboring Chad is an endless nightmare of death, misery, starvation and sickness yet the world seems deaf to the cries of the Darfurian people. Why? Why doesn’t the international community put an end to the killing? Where are the world’s leaders?
What we have learned at DRP is that the world isn’t so much deaf to Darfur as it hasn’t heard about Darfur. With the exception of a few journalists who are covering the unfolding story, the media give Darfur scant attention and as a result, the average person is unaware of the genocide taking place.
DRP makes educating the public about Darfur a top priority and sends trained speakers to bear witness to the atrocities being committed there. DRP speakers travel the United States to speak to college, high school and middle school students, congregations in places of worship and countless other community groups. Our presentations are tailored to the audience and often include first-hand accounts and photography/footage from the camps. DRP speakers are also available for panel discussions and media interviews.
No audience is too small. It is our belief that if we tell 10 people about the horrors occurring in Darfur, they will tell ten more and ten more until enough people decide that today is the day the nightmare ends.
