DRP is a non-profit, charitable organization with a dedicated staff of volunteers, some of whom are full-time. Our work centers on two fundamental missions: building awareness among the American public that will encourage a stronger U.S. government response to help end the genocide and; uniting Darfurians to find peaceful solutions that will lead to the rehabilitation of Darfur and its people. DRP has a variety of unpaid, volunteer positions available…all with flexible hours and all reporting into the Executive Director. For most positions prior experience, while always welcome is not a requirement. What is required, however, is a positive attitude and a commitment to ending the genocide in Darfur through peaceful means. There is much work to be done and never a greater urgency. As you read this, the unimaginable suffering of innocent Darfurians continues unabated. Do you have several hours a week that you can give DRP to help end this suffering? Can you help us sow the seeds of peace?
- Speaker’s Bureau Coordinator: DRP representatives are actively engaged in a public outreach to educate the public about the Darfur genocide and motivate people to help end it. DRP is called upon daily to speak at rallies and other public events, at schools and in panel discussions. A volunteer is needed to coordinate the calendar of speaking events, a position that requires excellent organizational skills and a facility in dealing with the public.
- Office Management and I.T: Volunteers are needed to manage phones, help with light typing, mailings and other fundraising activities. Help with I.T. and computer programming is also needed.
- Fundraising: The fundraising volunteer will work with the Executive Director to develop fundraising strategies. This includes coordinating fundraising events, developing fundraising materials, researching foundations and drafting grant proposals. Experience in fundraising and/or writing grant proposals is desired but not required.
- Finance: The Finance volunteer will assist the Executive Director in managing the organization’s finances. This may include maintaining a QuickBooks bookkeeping system, developing an office budget and working with the DRP accountant.
- Newsletter and Website:
- Newsletter – The Newsletter volunteer works with an editor under the Publications Chair on DRP’s Darfur Awareness newsletter, a quarterly newsletter that covers both DRP events and general developments on the crisis in Darfur. Responsibilities include research, editing, layout and distribution. Publishing experience helpful.
- Website - The Website volunteer is responsible for maintenance of DRP’s website, www.darfurrehab.org., including managing content. Prior web design experience is helpful.
Applications for these volunteer positions should be submitted to bfoster@darfurrehab.org. Please include a cover letter, résumé, writing sample, your anticipated availability and the position(s) in which you are interested.
